Hot Showers & Georges Barbier

Ah!!

There is nothing like the feeling of a hot shower late at night. I rarely take them (night showers I mean, not showers in general! Ha!) but occasionally there comes a need for a hot shower (like after a long sweaty yoga class) and it just feels good to be so fresh. and clean.

I wanted to share a few things with you!

Mainly, a new artist (well, not new at all, but new to me!) that I discovered when researching Art Deco Artists the past few days—Georges Barbier. My mind was completely blown away with his prints. They are so playful, quirky, funny, and whimsical. And they depict my favorite era—the roaring 20’s.

Not only do I live in an Art Deco style home, but I realized that MOST of my framed pieces are in the Art Deco style. They are mainly Klimt and Mucha. So, it totally fits for me to live in this place! Ha!

I have been thinking a lot the past few weeks on what art I want to adorn my bedroom walls. I have so much wall space in this new place that most of my already framed pieces are going down-stairs. I came across Barbier’s pieces and just KNEW that his prints must be on my walls. I will now dedicate the next 3 years to collecting his prints and putting them on my walls;)

Why?

Because they make me happy.

In other Jennifer Nanney News:

I have grad school orientation tomorrow! It's called "Family Day" and my Mom and Dad and Brother (Clint) are coming over to attend with me. I will meet the people that I will be spending the next 3 years of my life with. Although we are virtual strangers now, in no time, we truly will be family. 

I found out at work today that I will be working about 3 times as much as usual (30-35 hours a week) for the next 2 weeks. This made me gulp. and feel a little over-whelmed. Besides school, I have a full load just with meetings/Relay for Life/Yoga, and various other responsibilities I shoulder. This means that a few things will take a back seat the next few weeks--and they will probably be yoga/meetings/and friends. *gulp*. 

BUT, the end is in sight. I have decided to leave my Anthro Family May 4th in order to prepare for Grad School and begin Anusara Immersion 1 and 2  at Butterfly Yoga! The Immersion starts May 5th. Just in time;) I will be so sad to leave what has become "home" for me. I have loved every minute (well, most of the minutes) with my family at Anthropologie and not only will I miss my discount, but I will mostly miss my people.

I did buy this beautiful blue shower curtain today after work. It matches my blue tiled bathroom perfectly!

My next Physics test is MONDAY! and I have a very full weekend ahead! I'm trying not to get too anxious and tense. A lot rides on these next few grades. I DO have to pass with a C to be able to actually attend Grad School. Hmmmm......let's not think about that. ha!

I hope everyone has had a marvelous week. It sure has blown by fast! 

OH, Weight Watchers is going superbly well! I am only on day 3 but I can tell that my metabolism has revved up and I am enjoying learning about portions. My oh MY was I eating too much food! I love eating 5 small meals throughout the day. I already feel better! I feel that in no time my weight will be where I want it to be--and in a very healthy manner.

why, hello spring!

Hello, Spring!

I don’t know about you, but I COME ALIVE during Spring time. I mean, I’m always “alive” but my spirit really soars when the weather gets a little warmer, the flowers start to bloom, the smell of honeysuckle tickles my nose—the way it stays light later, the breeze, the smell of fresh cut grass and cook-outs. MAN ALIVE—I LOVE IT!

I always fall in love during spring time. And I mean, not just with a guy (although there is usually one involved—at least one, I might add)…I fall in love with everything. Kind of like Valentine’s Day all over again!

And today was no exception.

The first day of Spring was utterly amazing and fantastic for me.

and to think it fell on a Monday!

I woke up with an over-whelming feeling of how awesome it is to be alive. To be alive and loving life. Wow. Words can not really express the state of my soul and spirit today because it was just completely other-wordly.

I went to school with an unusual skip in my step.

I went to the grocery store, came home, unloaded groceries and got a call from one of my favorite people—Malcolm. We walked down the street to eat at Basil’s in Belhaven.

We sat outside and enjoyed our salads. We laughed and talked and laughed some more.

Then we walked down the way to Belhaven University to see the Student Art Exhibit—seeing as it was the last day to view the show and my dear and beloved, Lydia Gamble, had a piece in there—I definitely had to see it.

I was absolutely amazed! It was a WONDERFUL show! Such talent very much quality work. I also loved visiting with my old friend Bob Pennebaker. Bob and I go way back from the time I was a student there and I just love him to death. He’s a rare man and I am so glad Belhaven has him!

After our walk I went for a jog about the neighborhood.

I really can’t express how happy I am to be back in Belhaven! I just love it here. It truly feels like I am “home”. I am so comfortable in my skin and with my life. It’s a good feeling.

I listened to music and left my doors open to let the breeze come in.

I went to yoga and had my ass kicked but boy did it feel good! It feels good today to be passionate about life and to be able to fully participate in life; To be fully present and engaged in the moment.

I hope that each of you had a marvelous first day of Spring.

As you can tell, I certainly did;)

Meridian and North Midtown Arts Center

If you didn't already know, I hail from Meridian, MS.  My family has called Meridian home since 1987. We lived in the same house until I was 19 years old. However, when I was 19 and living in England, my parents decided to move our family about 2.5 miles away from my childhood home and into a much bigger house. It took me a long time to feel like our new house was really home. But now, at almost 29 years of age, I do feel like it’s home. Yesterday, I had the day off and got to go to Meridian to have lunch and visit with my mom, brother, sister and nephew.

 We had a delicious lunch at the Deli on 5th. 

I, of course, had to have the Red Velvet Cake for dessert.

After our delicious lunch, we went to mama's house to visit for a bit before I had to return to Jackson.

Let me introduce you to my home in Meridian.

 My mom might die if she knew I was doing a blog on our home because it's in a bit of a disarray and undecorated for Christmas. But whatever. It's still home

A painting I had to have when I was visiting New York City. I believe I was 16 years old. It still hangs in my bedroom.

I love going home. Now that I'm older, I always wish I could stay longer. 

BUT

I had to get back to Jackson to go on a date with one of my besties, Jessica Criddle!

Jess and I (and our friend, Travis) headed out to North Midtown Arts Center to check out a famous percussionist,  Tatsuya Nakatani!

His show was very interesting. The more we listened and watched, the more we got into it. Overall, it was a very moving experience and I'm certainly glad we got to be apart of it.

After it was over, however, we got a little goofy.

We ran into a guy named Melvin who was having his birthday party at Martin's. Although we didn't go to the birthday party, we still got a picture with the birthday boy!

And then Jess and I wandered around the arts center....

And then we called it a night.

What a fun Wednesday. I wish all my Wednesdays were as amazing as the one I experienced yesterday.
