Snoop double O G G!

On Wednesday night, my girlfriend (and Yoga instructor) and I got to spend quality time together by………

GOING TO SEE SNOOP DOGG!

I know, you must be giggling right now. Or have a look of confusion on your face.  But it’s true. Snoop came to Jackson and played at Club Fire.

I really did not know what to expect nor anticipated having as much fun as I did. But let me tell you. I had a….

MOTHER FREAKIN’ BLAST!
(in the words of Snoop. Except insert the real F bomb).

Tara and I had a lovely meal at Bravo! Italian Restaurant. We then ventured down to Club Fire (which is just hilarious to me in and of itself) and got our Snoop on. Snoop actually didn’t come out until close to midnight. So we danced to the rappers who came on before, ran into some friends, spent another hour taking photos, all while waiting for Snoop to make an appearance.

I hear he is known for being fashionably late (as in close to 3 hours later than scheduled) and so I had expected to wait. And we did;) But when he came out, you would have thought I was the biggest Snoop Dogg fan in the whole world! I was mesmerized. Ha!

He played his old classic hits—my favorite is Gin and Juice. A few others that I actually knew were Sexual Seduction, Jump Around, Drop it Like it’s Hot, and What’s My Name.

He only rapped for about an hour and at around 1am called it a night. But oh no, It wasn’t over for Tara and I! A guy from the stage started hand picking girls to go back stage!!! We didn’t know what was about to go down but we sure wanted to find out! So, we went back stage! And got to meet all his crew, family (Dad), manager—everybody except Snoop. We were told he would come out to take pictures with us, but at about 2am, we realized, he might even be more late for backstage than he was to go on stage! So sadly, we left. I heard later on that he never came out of the bus but that people go to go IN the bus with him. Hmmmmm…….that sounds a little fishy. It was probably for the best that we left.

All in all, we had an amazing time. I just love Tara to death.

See you next time, Snoop!

In other news, I spent a couple of hours yesterday opening my windows because they were painted shut. and I finally got most of them open! Here is a view outside my house with the windows open. I don't know if you can actually tell they are open or not but I have the most amazing breeze coming in now!

Happy Weekend, Friends! I hope everyone enjoys this last weekend in March!

Something is Everything

How you do something, is how you do everything.

My yoga teacher, Scotta Brady, used the above statement as a theme for an anusara yoga class not too long ago.

I rarely remember themes from class (unfortunately), but this one stuck with me. It’s something I’ve been thinking about everyday.

How I do something is how I do everything?

Hmmm……

That would mean, how I treat myself, is how I treat you.

And if I do a half-ass job at something means I do everything half-ass.

And when I tell myself little white lies that I don’t think matter, I’m telling YOU those little white lies that I don’t think matter. But I’m willing to bet, YOU DO!

Do I half-ass my way through life. Pretending. Not really caring. Faking. Negative. Cynical. Pessimistic.

Or do I give most things my all. Do my best. Give. Care. Am authentic. Positive. Optimistic.

It’s definitely something worth thinking about;)

How you do something, is how you do everything.

Happy Weekend, Friends!

*My heart and prayers go out to those in Japan. Let us keep them in the forefront of our minds this day. Sending them thoughts of peace and calmness amidst the storm.*

New Pad

 Guess what, Friends?

I picked up this little sucker at 3.

Yep. Key to my new pad.

This is where I will call home (hopefully for the next several years).

Front Door
Back door

 Kitchen
Living Room (I LOVE the corner windows!)
 Eating area
 Stairwell
 My Bedroom!

A built-in bookshelf in what will be my study and yoga room!

I’m glad to be back in my favorite neighborhood!

Won’t you be my neighbor?!

In other Jennifer Nanney news, I have my second Physics test next Wednesday. I hope I don’t fail this one;) My move-in date is tentatively scheduled for March 19th.  Between working, studying, moving, Relaying, Yoga-ing, and meetings—my life is wam-bam-thank-you-mam- full.

Full of goodness that is;)

I would rather my life be full and busy than bare and idle.

Please stop by for lemonade or tea if you’re in the hood. We can sit on my balcony together and listen to the Stones.

Happy Weekend to YOU!

Fear of Failure

Yesterday was a really bad day. In fact, pretty much the worst day I’ve had since I’ve been sober.

I experienced a lot of emotional pain, the details are unnecessary, but boy oh boy did I want to change the way I felt. Almost every time I feel pain, it feels like the worst thing in the world. Like the sky is closing in and the entire universe is about to crash on my head.

Yes, I’m a tad dramatic if you hadn’t noticed that before;)

On top of that, I failed my Physics test.

Yes. I typed that correctly.

I FAILED.

Made a 50 to be even more precise.

For those of you who know me personally, this is both shocking and unacceptable. Jennifer Nanney does not fail things (except for the decade in which I was majorly failing at life). Not only have I never failed anything, but I’ve made it this far with only one C on my transcript. And that C was in Epistemology, so it really doesn’t count;)

I emailed my professor and told him that this totally blew my dream of becoming a Physics rock-star.

He replied, “ Don’t let one test grade deter you from that dream!”

and then I thought about it.

and then I tried to quit thinking about it.

and now I’ve just accepted the fact that I failed. I actually faced the fear of failure. and it didn't kill me. in fact, it will most surely make me stronger.

The entire time I’ve been writing this blog, this one quote from a Tom Robbins novel keeps coming to mind,

So you think that you're a failure, do you? Well, you probably are. What's wrong with that? In the first place, if you've any sense at all you must have learned by now that we pay just as dearly for our triumphs as we do for our defeats. Go ahead and fail. But fail with wit, fail with grace, fail with style. A mediocre failure is as insufferable as a mediocre success. Embrace failure! Seek it out. Learn to love it. That may be the only way any of us will ever be free.

But you know, although yesterday was hard, it wasn’t really that bad. The feeling of impending doom and complete and utter failure didn’t last that long.

I went to dinner with one of my favorite people ever-- Rachel. And I was reminded of something while spending time with her. That people love me no matter what my test grades are. That people love me even when things get ugly. That people don’t expect me to be perfect all the time. And by “people” I mean my friends. I am truly blessed to have some of the most amazing friends in this lifetime. Friends that have my best interest at heart, Friends that feel my pain, Friends that feel my joy, Friends that love me no matter what.

Thank you, Friends! You make my life so much fun and meaningful. and beautiful and delicious!

Today is going to be a better day. I can already feel it in my bones.

(While I was winding down last night, I decided to go on a journey and look at some of my favorite images. I’ll share them with you here. It amazed me how much peace and serenity were brought by looking through these images. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did).

Happy Weekend!

new orleans

why, hello friends!

miss me?

i didn't think so;)

i can't believe it's already Tuesday. i've been thinking about writing a blog about my weekend wonderful in new orleans for a few days but my schedule has been more busy than ever. and i'm getting frustrated because i really wanted to put out a spectacular blog on new orleans but alas, this will have to do.

mac and I had a wonderful weekend. it felt so good to be back in the city. i just love everything about new orleans. the smells, the sights, the people, the dirt, the quaintness---everything, i'm telling you!

the yoga workshop with Scotta Brady was amazing. we met some wonderful, beautiful people and really pushed ourselves in the workshop.

we shopped a little, ate some amazing (and interesting) food, and took it all in.

this trip to new orleans was special for me in the respect that it was my first sober trip to the city. i've spent MANY a drunken night there but this was my first real experience sober.
and it was awesome.

it was so incredible to be fully present.

to fully share the experience with others.

to wake up feeling refreshed and remembering everything from the night before.

to participate 100% in the yoga workshop.

it was amazing.

and i'm so grateful.

here are some photos from the weekend.

i was going to write under each photo and link cool stuff to all the fun places we visited, but i just don't have the time right now! I may try and link a few;)

i'll just let these pictures do all the story-telling needed. and your imagination, of course;)

We stayed at The Parkview Guest House. It overlooked Audubon park and was so quaint and beautiful!

We stopped at P.J’s Coffee and guess who came to meet us?! My bestie, Eric Aycock!

We enjoyed a trolley ride down St. Charles into the French Quarter. But boy was it cold!

I got to see my favorite ex-boyfriend and dear friend, Jason Briggs!
We all enjoyed a traditional Ethiopian meal together in the Quarter.

The view from our window the next morning. This was the coldest I have ever seen New Orleans.

Ready to hit the town!

We hit up one of my favorite places in the whole world! Whole Foods!

We went shopping on Magazine Street!

The yoga workshop at Wild Lotus Yoga was amazing. Scotta did an incredible job and I learned so much!

By far the best meal we had was at Sukho Thai! And let me also say that getting to eat dinner with Sean Johnson was the highlight of my trip. I truly felt like I was in the presence of someone enlightened. His kindness and compassion and personability(i think i just made that word up. opps!) totally melted my heart. I can not wait to get to visit his studio again and get involved with what he’s doing. He’s truly transforming New Orleans with the way he lives his life. He is my new hero!

Saturday we got to see where Eric lives! His new pad is rad!

We ate brunch with his new roommate, Andy, at Riccobono Panola St. Cafe!

All in all, our trip was a success! Due to complications while writing this blog, (computer acting up, couldn't find pictures i wanted to use) I'm finally calling it done!

Infact, I feel like due to everything going on in my life, I will be taking a hiatus from the blogging community for a while. Don't worry, I'll be back in Spring.
Hopefully with lots of good news and happy pictures.

I hope everyone is enjoying this cold February!

Until next time!
