dear santa

Dear Santa,

I’ve been mostly good this year.

When I say mostly, I mean….i put my foot in my mouth a few times, said a few things I shouldn’t have, reacted poorly a few many times, ate entirely too much sugar, taunted a few too many men, didn’t recycle near enough, gained a few too many pounds, sent a couple of texts I shouldn’t have, had a few lapses in judgment, etc, etc, etc….

However, I think on the whole I did a lot better than previous years. I completed two semesters of grad school, I told people the truth even when it wasn’t pretty, I formed new boundaries and stuck to them, I didn’t react every single time I had the opportunity to, I didn’t feel the need to defend myself or explain myself. I came into a new sort of confidence that I didn’t think was possible. I experienced contentment and fulfillment in a whole new way. I discovered more things that I do not want to emulate in my life. And a bunch of new things I do.

There are really not too many things I can think of that I want, that I don’t already have.

I mean, sure….a hot (and good) man, new car, and a trip to Portugal would be nice….

But I’ll settle for a little time off school, laughs around the fire, meal-times with friends, and being home on Christmas Day.

But if you could, would you please end all this ridiculous nonsense that’s going on in our country? Would you please make people see that they aren’t so different from one another? Would you please remind everyone that really nothing is that big of a deal? And that the way people treat their family is telling of who they really are. Would you please help the 100% who are divided into 90/10? Will you make sure that the people who really are in need will be helped? Will you put a big hunk of joy and peace in our stockings this year? And more than anything, will you please send me an everlasting gobstopper? I’ve wanted one for so long now.

That’s all.

Yours truly,
Jennifer Nanney
