happy happenings

Hi Friends!

I have a few things I wanted to share with you....

The first and most important “happy happening” I have to report is that my baby sister got engaged late Tuesday night.

I still don’t think it’s sunk in quite yet that my sister (baby sister) is going to be a married woman soon-ish. I am very happy for her and her soon husband-to-be. I think they truly do compliment each other and it is true that I have never seen my sister happier.

 congrats to my sweet caroline and darling alex.

They are thinking about a beach wedding sometime in March or April. I’m sure more details will soon follow.

The next happy happening is that Chuck Palahniuk is COMING TO JACKSON, MS!!!!!!!!  I awoke to this information on my facebook newsfeed  and my heart nearly jumped out of my chest. Most of you know how much I love this author. I’ve read nearly everything he’s written. When I read the book Choke, I felt as if he was writing about me. I am SO beyond stoked and I hope you’ll come see him and buy his latest book, Damned. Chuck will be here Oct 20^th, 2011 at Hal & Mal’s. 5:30 pm. No tickets are needed. It’s a free event. It just doesn’t get much better than this;) For more info, click here.

The third thing I have to report is the yoga workshop this weekend with the amazing Noah Maze! I had the privilege of attending his last workshop here almost 2 years ago and he is phenomenal! It is truly a blessing to get this kind of expertise this close to home. And the good news is that YOU CAN STILL REGISTER! Please come out and join us this weekend. You will not be disappointed!

Also, my sweet friend, Cassie, is coming up from the New Orleans kulu to stay with me this weekend for Noah! So excited to see her and spend time with my yogi’s.

another happy thing is the weather we experienced earlier this week. my morning jogs have been even more extra delightful.

 (come on Fall!)

And yet another happy thing is that my mom bought me a dresser from Hudson’s (her absolute favorite place to shop). i’ve been using my ironing board (of which I NEVER use) as a dresser the past 4 months. I can’t wait for parents to bring it to me!

This first week of school has been both good and exhausting. I’m in class most days for 6 hours. That’s 6 hours worth of new material my brain has to digest and absorb. I can absolutely assure you it did hardly either of those things this week.  The second day of school I had over 3 hours of reading material to cover. 

When I was re-tested a few years back (IQ and ADHD testing) the therapist told my dad I had one of the worst cases of ADHD she had ever seen. She told him I needed to tape my medicine to my tooth brush so I wouldn’t forget to take it. Sadly, I can’t take the medication anymore because, of course, I abused it;)

So, now my “medication” is my daily routine of running and yoga. and eating pretty decently. I function MUCH better when I do those things. It takes me about 5 extra steps a day to keep in step with the “average” or “normal” person. This used to frustrate me. I’ve gotten sort of used to it now.

What was I talking about??

Anyway…..

Relay for Life (Jackson)

Our sweet little team did a wonderful job raising money and relaying! Our team name was “Captain Planet and The Planeteers”. I can not begin to tell you how honored I was to be apart of something this awesome. It was amazing to see people come together in the name of power and healing and I encourage you to get involved with your local Relay for Life! I look forward to doing it again next year!

Caroline

Today is my baby sister’s 22^nd Birthday.

To even type that feels strange……22??????????????

I remember the day she was born. Vividly.

Actually, I remember before she was born. And I prayed every night for God to send me a little sister.

About a year later, I got my wish.

Caroline Elizabeth Nanney was born.

Since she is the baby, she got lots of love from the 3 of us. I remember going to see her for the first time in the hospital and we all had to wear masks because the three of us (me, Clint, and Brian) had just gotten over a bad case of the Chicken Pox!!!

Caroline was a feisty little baby. She had a strawberry blonde curl on the top of her head—much like Cindy Loo Hoo.

As she grew, her little personality came out more and for her entire childhood, she was such a tom-boy!

She once made the front page of the paper holding a recycling bin and walking barefoot down the street.

She hated to wear dresses; she hated to have her hair brushed. She would have MUCH preferred to live outside if she could.

She loved horsing around with her brothers. Not so much with her girly sister;)

As she continued to grow, I watched her change from a child to a teenager who became obsessed with fashion! She went from a tom-boy to a model over night!

I remember when she grew taller than me. Not cool as the oldest;)

Caroline has always been exceptionally strong-willed. She knows what she wants and watch out, cause she’s gonna get it.

Caroline has always known how to behave—in public, in social situations…..she had the maturity of an adult early on.

As I’ve watched her grow and change over the past 22 years—now a mama to her own little one, a lot of her has changed, but a lot has stayed the same.

She’s still my baby sister but she’s also now a strong woman; A courageous and brave woman; compassionate, kind, and thoughtful.

I am so grateful to you, baby sister. You’ve taught me a lot about life. You’ve enhanced my life in ways you’ll never know. You bring so much joy to us all.

You are my heart.

Happy Birthday, baby girl! I pray that this year will be the best one yet! I look forward to another 22 years of being your big sister;)

It is with great joy and much relief

that I was accepted today into the Masters of Occupational Therapy Program.
